Executive Functioning Coaching for Teens

Support your teen in learning how to start, stay with, and follow through on their work—while building the skills they need for independence, confidence, and life beyond high school.

We help teens understand how their brain works, where they get stuck, and how to use strategies that actually fit their real lives—so they can take more ownership over school and responsibilities.

Who This Is For

This support is designed for middle school students who are:

diagnosed with or suspected of having ADHD or executive functioning challenges

capable, but not consistently showing it in their work

struggling to start assignments, manage time, or follow through

overwhelmed, avoiding work, or stuck in cycles of procrastination

pushing back on help—but still needing support

ready (or almost ready) to take more ownership and responsibility

What Looks Like “Lack of Effort” Often Has a Different Explanation

Teens are often told they need to be more motivated, more responsible, or try harder.

But what looks like procrastination, avoidance, or inconsistency is often a breakdown in the executive functioning skills needed to plan, start, manage, and complete work.

As academic and social demands increase in high school, these challenges become more visible—and more stressful for both teens and parents.

When teens begin to understand how their brain works and where they’re getting stuck, they can start approaching their work—and their responsibilities—more effectively.

START
Can my child
get going?

Starting is often the hardest part. This is where kids get stuck, avoid, or need a lot of prompting.

The Rhythm of Doing™

Every task comes down to three simple questions:

When you know where things are breaking down, you can respond more effectively—and your child can build independence over time.

STAY
Can my child
keep going?

Once they begin, can they stay focused, manage frustration, and follow through?

FINISH
Can my child
wrap it up?

Can they complete the task, check their work, and transition to what’s next?

How Teen Coaching Works

Teen coaching is a structured, collaborative process designed to help teens build awareness, develop strategies, and take increasing ownership over their work and responsibilities.

Step 1: Discovery Call

We begin with a free call to determine whether coaching is a good fit for your teen and your family.

Step 3: Weekly Coaching & Real-Life Application

We meet weekly with your teen to:

  • reflect on what’s working and what’s not

  • identify where their process broke down (Start, Stay, Finish)

  • develop and test strategies in real situations

  • plan for upcoming assignments, tests, and responsibilities

  • build independence, accountability, and follow-through

Step 2: Assessment & Planning

We meet to understand how your teen approaches their work, where they get stuck, and what’s getting in the way. From there, we create a clear, personalized plan.

Step 4: Maintenance & Next Steps

Over time, we shift toward helping your teen take more ownership of their work, reflect on their patterns, and use strategies independently—with less external support.

What Students Often Gain

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is helping your teen feel more capable, more in control, and less overwhelmed.

Teens often leave with:

  • a clearer understanding of how they work and where they get stuck

  • improved ability to start and follow through on tasks

  • strategies they can actually use in real situations

  • increased accountability and ownership

  • more confidence and less conflict around school

  • greater independence over time
