Executive Functioning Coaching for Middle School Students
Support your child in learning how to start, stay with, and finish their work—while building the skills and awareness needed for independence.
We help students understand where they get stuck, develop strategies that actually work for them, and build systems they can begin to use on their own.
Who This Is For
This support is designed for middle school students who are:
diagnosed with or suspected of having ADHD or executive functioning challenges
capable, but struggling to keep up with increasing academic demands
having difficulty starting homework or tasks independently
becoming overwhelmed, shutting down, or avoiding work
needing more structure, but also ready to begin building independence
What Looks Like “Lack of Effort” Often Has a Different Explanation
Many students are told they need to try harder, be more responsible, or stay more organized.
But often, what looks like avoidance or inconsistency is actually a breakdown in the executive functioning processes needed to start, sustain, manage, and complete tasks.
As demands increase in middle school, these breakdowns become more visible—and more frustrating for both students and parents.
When students begin to understand where they are getting stuck, they can start to approach their work differently—and more effectively.
START
Can my child
get going?
Starting is often the hardest part. This is where kids get stuck, avoid, or need a lot of prompting.
The Rhythm of Doing™
Every task comes down to three simple questions:
When you know where things are breaking down, you can respond more effectively—and your child can build independence over time.
STAY
Can my child
keep going?
Once they begin, can they stay focused, manage frustration, and follow through?
FINISH
Can my child
wrap it up?
Can they complete the task, check their work, and transition to what’s next?
How Middle School Coaching Works
Middle school coaching is a structured process designed to help students build awareness, develop strategies, and begin managing their work more independently.
Step 1: Discovery Call
We begin with a free call to determine whether coaching is a good fit for your child and your family.
Step 3: Weekly Support & Problem-Solving
We meet weekly with your child to:
-
reflect on what worked and what didn’t
-
identify where their process broke down (Start, Stay, Finish)
-
learn and apply strategies that match those moments
-
plan for upcoming assignments, tests, and responsibilities
Step 2: Assessment & Planning
We meet to understand how your child approaches their work, where they are getting stuck, and what support they need. From there, we develop a clear plan.
Step 4: Maintenance & Next Steps
Over time, we shift toward helping your child take more ownership of their work, reflect on their own patterns, and use strategies more independently.
What Students Often Gain
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is helping your child feel more capable, more in control, and less overwhelmed.
Students often leave with:
-
a clearer understanding of how they learn and where they get stuck
-
improved ability to start and follow through on tasks
-
strategies they can actually use in real situations
-
increased confidence and reduced frustration
-
greater independence over time
